Congress president Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on July 30. Sonia Gandhi was admitted to the private facility in Delhi at 7 pm for "routine tests and investigations", the hospital said in a health bulletin. "Her condition is currently stable," Dr D S Rana, the chairman of the Board of Management of the hospital, was quoted as saying in the bulletin. The 73-year-old has been facing health-related ailments over the past few years. The Congress president was admitted to the same hospital in February after she complained of stomach ache. Earlier in the day, Sonia Gandhi held a meeting with party’s Rajya Sabha members and discussed the current political situation with them. The meeting was organised through video conference in which its top leaders, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, participated. The chorus for her son and former party president Rahul Gandhi to be re-appointed as the Congress chief has once again gained traction. Days after a section of Youth Congress leaders called for the Gandhi scion to retake control, a group of MPs who interacted with Sonia Gandhi earlier in the day on July 30 also appealed her to appoint him as the next party president.
