If you sucked away the entire atmosphere, most higher vertebrates including humans would asphyxiate in seconds. Other land animals would follow within a few minutes, plants within a few hours. All unprotected plant and animal life on the Earth's surface would die. We can't survive long in a vacuum, which is what we'd have if the atmosphere suddenly vanished.
