Clashes in Spain as protesters demand release of Pablo Hasel
  • 3 years ago
Unrest over the arrest of rapper Pablo Hasel continued in Spain, as
thousands gathered to protest for the third night in a row.
Clashes broke out in Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia, where riot police charged at the crowd.
Masked protesters hurled projectiles, some set rubbish bins alight or attempted to build barricades.
Hasel is currently in prison serving a nine-month sentence for inciting violence, exalting terrorism and humiliating the Crown on Twitter.
He had barricaded himself inside a university in protest, but was arrested and transferred to jail on February 16.
His supporters are demanding Hasel’s release, saying it is a matter of free speech.
Amnesty International condemned his arrest.
