Greece: Rare snowfall covers ancient Athens monuments
  • 3 years ago
An unusual snowfall blanketed the Acropolis and many other historical landmarks in Athens, causing traffic disruptions.
Many astonished residents went to parks and walked around the city to enjoy the rare sight.
The snow blanketed the Parthenon, the Greek Parliament, the Academy of Athens, and Socrates' statue, to name a few.
Outside parliament, presidential guards, also called 'Evzones,' wore overcoats over their traditional clothes to face the cold temperatures.
Authorities shut most public transports, including ferry services to the Greek islands, while flights from regional airports to Athens experienced disruptions.
