South Africans can't afford basic food basket
  • 3 years ago
Majority of South African households can’t afford the basic food basket. That’s according to the Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice and Dignity Group. It says households aren’t receiving enough income to cope with escalating food prices. The group’s latest research found that a basket with essentials including maize, rice and cooking oil now costs just over four thousand rand a month - an amount many can’t afford. eNCA’s Lethiwe Mdluli reports.
