Beijing says Australian journalist's legal rights are protected

Chinese authorities agreed with the arrest of CGTN journalist Cheng Lei on Feb 5 over suspicion of selling state secrets abroad, China's foreign ministry said on Monday.

The ministry's spokesman Wang Wenbin said Cheng's legal rights are guaranteed during the process.

Cheng was born in China but moved with her parents to Australia as a child and attended university in Queensland.
