Rest in Peace John Chaney
John Chaney died last week at 89 as one of the prominent coaches in college basketball history at Temple University, leading a program of Black players as a successful Black coach after getting snubbed as a player due to racism in his own playing days. Bob Ryan remembered his journey from the Eastern League to his most memorable moment, a post-game scrap with John Calipari that had to be broken up by security as Chaney threatened to kill Coach Cal over his handling of the officials. Jeff Goodman and Bob looked beyond that moment that unfortunately will become his top highlight in an otherwise influential career in basketball. Chaney entered the Hall of Fame in 2001 and retired in 2006 with a 741-312 record.
