CDC Says Risk of COVID-19
in Schools Is Small.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published new research about classroom risk
in the 'JAMA' medical journal.
In numerous school districts
across several states, .
researchers found that COVID-19
transmissions within schools were rare
as long as students and faculty wore masks.
In cases where students
tested positive for the virus, .
the leading cause of infection was attending social gatherings or interacting with people outside of their household, not attending school.
Reports outside of the U.S. that have documented school outbreaks attribute the spread to crowded classrooms, recirculated air and inadequate face mask usage.
President Biden has asked congress for nearly $130 billion to help reopen schools and support faculty who have been laid off.
His administration seeks to open
K-8 schools in about 100 days
