South Korea has decided not to raise the distancing level to its highest tier, level 3, at least for now.
The capital will remain at level 2-point-5 until January 3rd, and the rest of the country at level two.
Announcing the decision today, the authorities reasoned that there is already a ban in place on gatherings of more than five people in the capital area.
Going to level three would close down more than two million businesses.
The South Korean government said what is needed to overcome the crisis is a "social consensus," not stronger measures that would hurt the economy.
So, in the greater Seoul area, cafes can only do delivery and take-out, and people can dine in at restaurants only before 9 PM.
Outside the capital, under level two, bars will remain closed, but facilities like singing rooms can operate until 9 PM.
