The rollout of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is now underway in nearly every province in Canada. In New Brunswick, vaccinations are expected to get underway over the weekend, and the territories are awaiting approval of the Moderna vaccine. Meanwhile, health officials in Ontario are warning hospitals to activate emergency plans to prepare for a surge of COVID-19 hospitalizations after the holidays. The death toll in the province has risen to 4,035 as 43 more deaths were reported. Wednesday’s case count was also the second consecutive day new cases were above 2,000 after 2,275 new infections were recorded on Tuesday.
