India mystery illness: lead and nickel in blood samples taken from hundreds sickened in Eluru city

Indian doctors have found a potential cause behind a mysterious illness that sickened hundreds in the southern Indian city of Eluru. Lead and nickel were detected in blood samples collected from patients, who experienced symptoms including seizures, unconsciousness and nausea. The cluster of illnesses, which was first reported on December 5, 2020, killed one person and sent more than 500 others to hospital.
