Firms in South Korea will soon be able to adopt the flexible work hours system for a unit period of up to six months, from the current three months.
The revised bill was passed by the National Assembly on Wednesday, and will take about three months to come into effect.
The flexible work system enables adjustments to weekly working hours depending on workload.
Currently, employees can work overtime on certain weeks, as long as the average does not exceed the 52-hour limit per week over a three-month period.
The extension to six months aims to lift the burden of small and mid-sized companies, who must implement the shortened 52-hour workweek system starting January.
