코로나19 확산에 서울 병상가동률 90% 넘어…다음주 900명 확진 가능성도

Our starting point this evening.
Health authorities in this country are warning it may see up to 900 daily cases next week should the pace of rise in infections continue.
That number could rise even higher if social distancing is not well observed.
With another 615 new cases added today and hospital beds in the capital at 90-percent capacity, the health minister pleaded citizen vigilance comparing the current situation to that of a war zone.

South Korea recorded 615 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
Most came from the capital region with 422 from the capital area of Seoul, Gyeonggi-do Province and Incheon.
Seoul's 7-day average of daily COVID-19 cases is now 13 times higher than it was six weeks ago at the start of October.
Health authorities warn that if the outbreak doesn't slow down, the situation will only get worse.
"According to the mathematical modeling done by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and other experts,... we expect 550 to 750 new daily cases this week. There could be over 900 daily cases next week."
At a nursing hospital in the city of Ulsan, 53 cases were reported on Monday,... tallying up to 91 in two days.
Most are elders and the outbreak occurred because nurses and care workers moved from ward to ward to take care of patients.
Meanwhile, 11 people were confirmed with the virus at five bars in the Itaewon area of Seoul.
And with more cases, there are fewer hospital beds remaining.
In the city of Seoul alone, as of Sunday, almost 90-percent of beds are occupied.
The city government has selected two more hospitals to make use of their 107 spare beds.
It is also planning to use the unused space in another city hospital to build 150 temporary beds before December 15th.
Starting this week, treatment facilities across 25 districts will be used to house COVID-19 patients.
South Korea's health minister stresses that the capital region is in a "wartime situation" and says that if the spread can't be stopped using the strengthened measures,... it could lead to an explosive increase in cases and cause the country's medical system to crash.
