The year 2020 is on course to be one of the three warmest years ever recorded, according to the annual climate report by the United Nations’ World Meteorological Organization. The assessment was made with two months more data to be analysed from a year characterised by record bush fires, deadly hurricanes and heatwaves. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned on December 2  that “the planet is broken” as he urged countries to work together to cut global carbon emissions.
