Global Teacher Prize 2020 | Ranjitsinh Disale Wins | Indian Teacher Who Promoted Girls’ Education

Ranjitsinh Disale, a teacher from Maharashtra's Solapur, on December 3, won the Global Teacher Award 2020. Ranjitsinh Disale has also become the first Indian to win the coveted title. Disale will receive USD 1-million as award money. He was awarded for his contribution towards promoting girls' education & triggering a QR Coded textbook revolution in India. Disale emerged as the winner from 10 finalists from across the world competing for the annual prize. Disale announced that he would give fifty percent of the prize money to the nine finalists. The 32-year-old teacher belongs to the Paritewadi village in Maharashtra’s Solapur district. He teaches in the Zilla Parishad Primary School. He not only translated the class textbooks into his pupils' mother tongue but also embedded them with unique QR codes to give students access to audio poems, video lectures, stories & assignments. Due to his efforts, there are now no reported teenage marriages in the village & there is 100 per cent attendance of girls at the school. Disale was selected in the final 10 from over 12,000 nominations & applications from over 140 countries. Watch the video to know more about him.
