Police officer killed in border shootout to be awarded 'Star of the Commander of Valour' medal

Baharuddin Ramli, who was killed in the encounter near Padang Besar, Perlis in a shootout with smugglers at the Malaysia-Thailand border, will be awarded the 'Star of the Commander of Valour' posthumously.

Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has agreed to confer the medal to the fallen police sergeant.

Police sergeant Norihan Tari, who was injured in the encounter will also be awarded the same award.

The two police personnel, who were corporals at the time of the shooting, have been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
