Demand for free food rises in US as nation’s Covid-19 pandemic crisis deepens

A growing number of people in the US are seeking food handouts as the nation’s Covid-19 cases continue to rise. The Meadowlands YMCA in the state of New Jersey has partnered with a local food bank and other organisations to help people in need. Many of those seeking free food were struggling because they have lost jobs amid the pandemic. YMCA officials said the organisation’s resources are stretched, and they often run out of supplies on food-distribution days.
