In Pakistan, environmentalists clash with government developers over future of Karachi island
  • 3 years ago
Located off the coast of Karachi in Pakistan, Bundle Island is just home to a few camels. However, the area’s serene nature is at risk as the government is planning to turn it into a city that will “surpass Dubai”. Environmentalists say the urbanisation scheme will destroy the island’s mangroves, which provide a home to many marine species while also giving coastal protection to Karachi. Fisherfolk also warn that the development could destroy their livelihoods.
