President Moon stresses need to maintain essential cross-border exchanges during G20 summit

President Moon Jae-in emphasized the importance of maintaining essential travel to overcome the economic crises posed by the COVID-19 pandemic during the virtual G20 summit on Saturday.
Leaders will meet again on Sunday and conclude by adopting a joint statement.

During the first session of the G20 Summit on Saturday,... President Moon Jae-in reiterated the importance of facilitating travel for essential people to ensure a swift recovery of the global economy.
The two day meeting, hosted by Saudi Arabia, is under way via video-link up due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moon explained that South Korea was able to post positive growth in the third quarter,... highlighting that it maintained trade and investment by keeping its borders open... and that it implemented expansionary fiscal policies.
The G20 is expected to include Moon's proposal in a joint statement.
"President Moon welcomed the G20 agreeing to consider ways to enable the smooth travel of essential personnel across borders, which is expected to be included in the leaders' statement. Moon also called on the G20, which makes up 80 percent of the global economy, to work with the WTO to restore multilateralism and foster a fair and stable environment for trade and investment."
The South Korean president first made the proposal in March during the special G20 virtual summit.
Moon said that solidarity and unity in the international community will pave the way for economic recovery.
Moon also stressed the need for fair and equal distribution of treatment and vaccines to put a complete end to the COVID-19 outbreak.
He promised cooperation on Seoul's part to supply vaccines to developing countries.
South Korea is joining in the efforts of the World Health Organization for fair access to vaccines. We will also expand cooperation and humanitarian assistance through the Seoul-based International Vaccine Institute.
The G20 member states will meet again on Sunday for the last session after which, they will adopt the leaders' statement.
