How sounds are made for reality game shows
  • 3 years ago
Monique Reymond is an Emmy-winning Foley artist who has worked on numerous reality game shows. Reality game shows use Foley artists to create their sound effects because it is often too complicated to record high-quality sound while filming live. Each show has its own array of sounds, ranging from outrageous to realistic, but the real challenge is creating the perfect balance between realism and exaggeration. A show like "Fear Factor" needs the audience to believe that these sounds are real, but the sounds also need to be embellished a little bit to amplify the horror and disgust. This balance is made even more difficult if they have no reference for what a noise sounds like. Monique has found creating Foley for game shows to be actually much more satisfying than she first thought because it presents such an interesting variety of creative problems to solve.
