After Tamil actors united to observe a silent protest demanding the setting up of a Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) , the Tamil film director's held a press meet regarding their plans to protest against IPL. Director Bharathiraja, Ameer, Ram, FEFSI president RK Selvami and actor Sathyaraj were present among others.
Periyamayathevar Bharathiraja is an Indian film director who works mainly in the Tamil film industry. Making his debut in 1977 with 16 Vayathinile, he is known for realistic and sensitive portrayals of rural life in his films. As of 2017, he has won six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards South, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and a Nandi Award. He has also directed films in Telugu and Hindi. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri award, India's fourth biggest civilian honour, in 2004 for his contribution to the film industry.
Sathyaraj is an Indian film actor and media personality who has predominantly appeared in Tamil films. He is popularly known for his works in Baahubali (franchise) and Chennai Express. He started his career in villainous roles and later played lead roles. He has acted in over 200 films, including Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada films. He met with success with his lead performances Vedham Pudhithu (1987), Nadigan (1990), Amaidhi Padai (1994) and the Tamil Nadu government-sponsored film Periyar (2007). He also received acclaim for supporting roles in Nanban (2012), Raja Rani (2013) and his role as Karikala Kattappa Nada in the two-part epic Baahubali. He was also the director of the film Villadhi Villain (1995), starring himself in three different roles.
