Trump and Biden
to Be Muted , for Parts of Next Debate.
The first debate between Biden and Trump turned chaotic when the two men — most notably, the president — kept interrupting their opponent. .
In response to the spectacle, , the Commission on Presidential Debates
announced a change for the second and
final presidential debate taking place
on Thursday night.
Under the agreed upon debate rules, each candidate is to have two minutes of uninterrupted time to make remarks at the beginning of each 15 minute segment of the debate, Commission on Presidential Debates, via statement.
The Commission is announcing today that in order to enforce this agreed upon rule, the only candidate whose microphone will be open during these two-minute periods is the candidate who has the floor under the rules, Commission on Presidential Debates, via statement.
For the balance of each segment, which by design is intended to be dedicated to open discussion, both candidates' microphones will be open, Commission on Presidential Debates, via statement.
Though Trump is "committed to debating
Joe Biden," he isn't a fan of the new format.
I'll participate. I just think
it's very unfair, Donald Trump, via statement.
An anonymous source told CNN that the decision
to mute the microphones was unanimous.
This is not a change to rules but rather a move to promote adherence to rules that have been agreed to by
both campaigns, Anonymous source, to CNN
