'Pokémon GO' , is helping local businesses
survive during the pandemic.
Coronavirus has hit small businesses
hard, but the makers of the popular
augmented reality mobile game
have decided to give back.
1,000 of their in-game locations will be offered free to small businesses.
"We understand that many local businesses have experienced unprecedented hardship over the past few months - and we want to help." Niantic, via statement.
"We called upon 'Pokémon GO' players to nominate their favorite small and local businesses to participate in the Niantic Local Business Recovery initiative." Niantic, via statement.
"As part of our efforts to assist the economic recovery of local businesses, we are committed to supporting 1000 nominated businesses by providing complimentary promotion in 'Pokémon GO' for one year." Niantic, via statement.
Over 38,000 businesses
were nominated by players.
The initiative has
now launched.
The chosen companies will be advertised through sponsored in-game locations,
such as PokéStops or Gyms.
"Becoming a sponsored location will drive awareness and aid in the recovery of both the businesses and the communities which they serve.", Niantic senior product manager for sponsorships Carla Li, via statement
