Women Can't Progress Till 'Ghoonghat' Exists: Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan CM
  • 3 years ago
Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot on November 5 said that the custom of 'ghoonghat' must be eradicated at the earliest. He expressed his displeasure at the practise of covering women's faces with a veil (ghoonghat) in some rural areas. He said that the custom belongs to a bygone era. “Time has changed now but the practice of 'ghoonghat' is still there in villages. What is right in confining a woman to 'ghoonghat'? Women cannot progress until the 'ghoonghat' exists," said Gehlot.
