Lockdown Hurting Daily-wage Earners - From Vegetable Sellers In Delhi To Boatmen In Prayagraj
  • 3 years ago
The 21-day lockdown in India to contain the spread of the coronavirus has severely impacted the lives of India’s daily-wage earners. From vegetable vendors in various cities to the boatmen who ferry worshippers on the ghats of River Ganga in Prayagraj, the lockdown means they have no way to earn an income. More than 82% of the workforce is employed in the unorganised sector in India, as noted by the International Labour Union in 2018. This means the lockdown has severely impacted the lives of these workers.
