Amid the coronavirus lockdown in the country, a Hindu woman’s bier was carried by Muslim neighbours to a cremation ground. The incident took place in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The Muslim men also helped the woman’s son with the last rites as most of the relatives could not participate in the funeral due to the lockdown. Deceased’s Son said, “We had nothing. The Muslim brothers helped us. They helped us with food, money and whatever else required.” Deceased’s neighbour said, “We helped in performing the last rights following the Hindu rituals. Due to the situation in the country, their relatives also could not come and therefore we just performed the last rites following Hindu traditions.” The men followed the lockdown rules and wore masks on their way to the cremation ground. The men carried the elderly woman's bier on their shoulders to the cremation ground around 2.5 km away. PM Narendra Modi has extended the lockdown in the country till May 3.
