Maharashtra is one of the worst-hit states in the coronavirus pandemic in India. And now, the state has also seen a huge spike in child porn consumption during the lockdown period. As per Anil Deshmukh, Maharashtra Home Minister, the increase in child porn consumption reveals the presence of paedophiles, child rapists and child pornography addicts going online in India. Anil Deshmukh said the state government is taking stringent steps to prevent drastic rise in sexual crimes against children. The cybercrime department of the Maharashtra police registered 133 cases and arrested 46 people under IPC during the lockdown. The Kerala Police has identified 300 people who have uploaded and downloaded child pornographic content using the internet. Last week, the Indian Child Protection Fund (ICPF) said the demand for child pornographic material has been rising during the lockdown period. Data from Pornhub, the world's largest pornography website, reveals that traffic from India has increased by 95 per cent between March 24 & March 26, as compared to the average traffic, pre-Coronavirus outbreak.
