Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 30 in his brief to the nation said a key government scheme for free food grains to 80 crore people, India's poorest, would be extended to November as the country fights COVID-19. The Government Plans To Spend Rs 90,000 Crore On Expanding The Free Ration Scheme, The Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Yojana, Till November. People disobeying national directives in force, including mandatory use of face masks while in public, need to be stopped and made aware of the problem, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. Nobody is above the law in India, even the leader of the country, the Prime Minister said. PM Modi also said that work is on for ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’. PM Modi credited farmers and taxpayers with bolstering India's fight against the deadly virus. India has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks. There have been more than 5.6 lakh cases confirmed so far, with nearly 17,000 deaths linked to the virus.
