Orthopedic spine surgeon rates 11 movie injuries based on chances of survival
  • 3 years ago
Dr. Antonio J. Webb takes a closer look at spinal injuries in movies and rates them for the character's chance of survival. Webb addresses physical injuries from falls at a height, such as Keanu Reeves' parachute fall in "Point Break" (1991) and building fall in "John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum" (2019). He looks at car-crash injuries, such as in "Doctor Strange" (2016), "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" (2013) and "Bleed for This" (2016).Would Leonardo DiCaprio have survived the bear attack in "The Revenant" (2015)? And would Christian Bale's spine have been fixed without surgery in "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012)? Do real-life injuries sound just like Hilary Swank's neck hitting the boxing stool in "Million Dollar Baby" (2004)? Webb breaks down some of cinema's most iconic scenes. Dr. Antonio J. Webb is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon, having completed a combined neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery fellowship at Texas Back Institute. He spent eight years in the US Air Force as a medic and licensed vocational nurse, including a deployment north of Baghdad in 2005. He practices in San Antonio, Texas.
