The Holocaust is also known as the 'Shoah'. The word Holocaust is a combination of the Greek word “holos” means (whole) and “kaustos” means (burned). Together the words represent the historical sacrifice and mass murder of approximately 6 million European Jews by the anti-Semitic Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in 1945.
