South Korea today reported more than a hundred new cases of COVID-19 for a fifth day in a row.
The authorities are watching closely for potential outbreaks from people this weekend celebrating Halloween.
Because of the recent rise in cases, the government this afternoon is going to announce some revised social distancing measures that will be tailored to the different regions.
Yoon Jung-min reports.
South Korea on Sunday reported 124 new cases of COVID-19,... the fifth straight day the figure has been in the triple digits.
One hundred and one were locally transmitted, while 23 cases were imported from abroad.
The health authorities are closely monitoring new cluster infections this week,... because of the crowds going to bars and nightclubs on Saturday to celebrate Halloween.
A number of clubs and bars voluntarily chose not to open, but there were large crowds out on the streets of the Seoul neighborhoods of Itaewon, Hongdae and Gangnam.
Itaewon clubs were the epicenter of a cluster infection back in May.
This afternoon, in response to the persistent coronavirus threat, the authorities are expected to announce a revised set of social distancing rules,... because some have raised concerns about the social and economic costs of the existing restrictions.
The government is expected to unveil a comprehensive set of measures, tailored to different kinds of facilities, businesses and regions,... taking into account the different circumstances of each.
Health Minister Park Neunghoo said earlier that the new guidelines would be specific to the various regions rather than one size fits all.
