Actor-producer Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of DMK president MK Stalin, was in July 2019 appointed as secretary of the party’s youth wing. He replaces former MLA Vellakoil MP Saminathan, who was appointed to the post after Mr. Stalin stepped down a few years ago. Stalin’s family say the idea of forming a young women’s wing was talked about, there hasn't been any decision taken in this regard yet. Minister D.Jayakumar, while speaking to the press said “A DMK M.L.A seems to have leaned towards a different party. People say that Udhayanidhi Stalin gave him a chocolate and let him go.” Referring to Udhayanidhi as a chocolate boy, D.Jayakumar said “Only a Chocolate Boy will know about Chocolates.”

Addressing the press near his residence, Udhayanidhi said “Chocolate boy is not a derogatory term or anything. It is like an appreciation and I will take it. The person who called me a chocolate boy, he is a Playboy.”
