These Kataknath black chicken belong to the Madhya Pradesh domestic fowl. These chickens are high in melanin pigment, so everything from their wings ,meat, blood, etc. are dark in color. These chickens are characterized as medicinal in medical practices such as Unani and Siddha medicine. The medicinal properties of ebony are also discussed in Sanskrit literatures.
