On the coronavirus front,
South Korea reported 91 new cases today - the sixth day in a row that the nation managed to keep the daily tally below one hundred. But, health authorities remain on alert as as cluster infections continue to emerge particularly at nursing homes and hospitals.
For the next two weeks, they will launch full scale Covid-19 screenings at these facilities nationwide and high risk venues such as clubs and bars.
Kim Yeon-seung reports.
South Korea on Wednesday reported 91 new COVID-19 cases.
Health authorities remain on high alert as the number nears one-hundred.
34 of Wednesday's total were from overseas, marking the highest count of imported cases since July.
In Seoul, at least two infections stemmed from a swimming pool in the Gwanak-gu District,... bringing the city's daily total of local infections to 13.
Meanwhile, the surrounding Gyeonggi-do Province accounts for 21 of Wednesday's local infections.
Of those, six were linked to an elderly daycare center in Bucheon.
As COVID-19 cases continue to pop up at nursing homes and in hospitals, the government has come up with extra prevention measures.
"Starting this week, the government has launched full scale inspection of one-hundred-60-thousand hospital patients and healthcare workers in the capital area. It will also conduct a nationwide special inspection of eight-thousand nursing homes for two weeks starting tomorrow."
Over a two-week period, the government will also inspect high-risk entertainment facilities like bars and karaoke rooms...to see whether tightened prevention measures are being adhered to such as limiting the number of guests and wearing masks.
"For businesses that violate prevention rules, we plan to take active measures by banning gatherings or imposing fines in a one-strike out system."
Restaurants and large cafes in the capital area are also subject to inspections.
