As anger grew over the alleged gang-rape and hurried late-night cremation of a 19-year-old Dalit victim, an India Today investigation has secured confessions about glaring lapses in police response when the case unfolded. Dinesh Kumar Verma, then inspector of the Chandpa police station under whose jurisdiction the alleged attack took place on September 14, is caught on camera confessing that he neither visited the victim nor provided her with immediate medical care.
