While the South Korean economy may have performed better than that of other countries amid the COVID-19 pandemic,...salary levels remain below the OECD average.
According to analysis conducted by the office of Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Yang Kyung-sook...the average South Korean took home around 42-thousand dollars in annual salary last year,... ranking 19th out of the 35 OECD countries.
While the ranking marks the country's highest since 2003, South Koreans earn just 87 percent of the OECD average.
Yang warned that amid the coronavirus pandemic,... income levels and employment face uncertainty and that greater efforts are needed for income redistribution.
He also stressed the need to reduce the gender-based pay gap as well as to improve labor conditions for older workers.
