Our starting point tonight: the Covid-19 situation in South Korea.
On the first day back from the long Chuseok holiday, the country saw less than 100 new cases marking fifth day in a row that the daily increase has been kept in double digits.
However, health authorities are still cautiously monitoring the situation due to sporadic infections nationwide plus two confirmed cases of pediatric multi inflammatory system in the country are raising concerns.
Choi Won-jong reports.
South Korea reported 73 new cases on Monday, staying below 100 for the fifth day in a row.
Of those, 64 were local transmissions and 9 were from overseas.
This brings South Korea's total caseload to more than 24-thousand.
Despite the slowing trend in new cases after the five-day-long Chuseok holiday, the nation remains on high alert.
"During the holiday, we have seen sporadic infections in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and offices, even continuing to occur among family members and local communities."
Of Monday's new cases, 19 were reported in Seoul.
During the long holiday, there were more than 20 new cases a day,... mostly reported from indoor fitness facilities and churches.
Outside the capital area, a military base in Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do Province reported 36 new cases on Monday.
Of them, three tested positive on Sunday, but after testing all the other soldiers, 33 were added the next day.
Most service members were restricted from leaving the base during the holiday although one officer was in Seoul over Chuseok.
It isn't clear how the cluster infection on the base started, and a thorough epidemiological investigation is underway.
In a briefing on Monday, the health authorities also reported the first cases in Korea of inflammatory syndrome.
Two suspected cases of inflammatory syndrome related to COVID-19 were released from hospital.
Due to the restrictions on traveling during the holiday, the use of highways and public transport decreased.
The total number of people who traveled during the holiday was around 31 million,... 3-point-1 percent down from last year.
Due to the public's effort in following social distancing measures during the holiday, the health authorities said that they are not expecting to see a rapid surge in infections.
