China Launches Unprecedented Great Marine Ship.
China has launched its largest ship ever since it built itself amid rising regional tensions, South China Morning Post reported.

On September 30, China launched its own largest and most advanced marine ship ever built by itself.

The new ship was launched in the context of China conducting military exercises in four waters, causing regional countries to express concern.

The new Chinese seagoing vessel numbered Haixun 09 is large enough to park a helicopter and operates in bad weather conditions such as rough seas and strong winds.

According to Yan Peibo - chief engineer of ship design - Haixun 09 is larger than the Chinese Navy's Type 052 guided missile destroyer.

Type 052 usually operates in conjunction with an aircraft carrier. According to experts, the new ship will be used by China in missions related to its illegal sovereignty claim in the South China Sea.

Some people questioned when China built a ship that was too large. It is not clear whether this is a marine or military ship.

The Department of Maritime Safety of Guangdong Province, China will manage Haixun 09. This vessel is 165 meters long, displaces 10,700 tons and can travel more than 10,000 nautical miles at a speed of 25 knots.

The Haixun 09 can take longer than 90 days to refuel.

“Haixun 09 will be used to manage and control China's maritime traffic. Ensuring safe, unobstructed maritime traffic and protecting China's maritime interests ”, said Cao Desheng, director of the Department of Maritime Affairs under the Ministry of Transport of China.

However, the new vessel could also be used by China to serve its illegal claims in the South China Sea.

“China's strategy to consolidate maritime claims urgently needs maritime vessels. Through these ships, China can take action under military coercion over disputed waters, ”said Ben Ho, an analyst at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

"Large ships like Haixun 09 may be suitable for carrying out claims reinforcement missions because of their long-term capabilities at sea," said Ben.

Adam Ni - Director of the Center for China Policy in Australia - also agreed with Mr. Ben Ho.

“The new ship will add to China's maritime control capabilities. Compared to a few years ago, China has more coast guard ships to monitor waters it claims illegally, ”said Adam Ni.

Many countries in the region have repeatedly criticized China's maritime vessels for carrying out unruly actions such as sinking fishing boats, arresting fishermen, arbitrarily confiscating fishing gears.
