Why Scientists Are Trying to Standardize Our Cider Vocabulary
  • 4 years ago
While there are cider enthusiasts in the United States, it's safe to say that many Americans don't quite "get" cider. The drink often gets lumped in with beer because of their similar colors and alcohol levels. But cider is just fermented fruit juice, making it more akin to wine. And a new research project is setting out to give Americans a vocabulary to describe it.The USDA granted $500,000 to Virginia Tech scientists, so they can create a language of cider. The hope is that solidifying America's cider vocabulary will help boost an industry that’s seen a major revival.Want to help taste?
