S. Korea's frontline workers continue to battle COVID-19 during Chuseok

Due to sporadic transmissions during Chuseok, many hospitals and local governments are monitoring the situation with extra caution.

Chuseok is one of the biggest national holidays in South Korea, but many COVID-19 testing centers and medical institutions are not taking a break even during the holiday.
With the government concerned about the possibility of another wave of the virus, many frontline workers across the nation remain on high alert.
One medical doctor who came to volunteer at the Gangnam-gu district's testing center hopes to fill the gap in medical staff during the holiday.
"The COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet. I believe many volunteers' roles played a big part in preventing the spread of the virus in the beginning. I decided to work today because I think we need more medical staff, as we may face a second wave of the virus."
He also added that he won't be able to see his family members during the holiday, but said he's doing this work for the people he cares about.
According to the nation's health ministry, more than 400 testing centers will be operating each day on average, and more than 5-hundred emergency rooms will open 24 hours as usual during the holiday.
The same goes for the health officials from local governments that are monitoring the situation ceaselessly.
"New infections can occur any time. Particularly, during this holiday, we are here to prevent the spread of the virus and protect local residents' safety."
Their jobs are significant because they are the main communication between patients and medical staff for providing any necessary information during the quarantine process.
"In the middle of this hectic situation, I am starting to forget my family's faces... I hope the pandemic is over soon."
