A new TikTok trend has been dubbed the “shut up” challenge and it is essentially a prank between mom and their child.
We are used to seeing trends pop up on TikTok now and some of them have been more questionable than others. Most of them have been pretty harmless and funny, while others have been seen as cruel and are set to bully a certain group of people. It is important for moms to be aware of the popular trends that are going around this popular social media app. They need to make sure that their children are not perpetuating negative trends, and are not the victim in ones set out to bully.
However, it also looks like dads need to be careful too because they are the latest victims in a popular TikTok trend that seems to have the viewers divided. The trend has been dubbed the “shut up” challenge and it is essentially a prank between mom and their child.
How it works is that mom tells their child to say “shut up” to her at some point while dad is around. Mom will be secretly recording dad at the time to try and get his reaction to hearing their child disrespect their mother. Dads generally do not react well to hearing their child tell their mother to “shut up” and a lot of them immediately jump into action.
This is what has the internet divided, because some are accusing the dads in the video of “promoting child abuse” and that is because a lot of the dads threaten to “beat their child’s a—.” Other dads appeared stunned and don’t really do much, and the internet doesn’t mind letting them know that they are parenting wrong.
One clip showed a mom asking her child to throw out the trash. He refuses and claims he just did the other day. When mom asks again, the “shut up” comes. The mom’s boyfriend freezes and then chases the boy and puts him in the trash bin. Some dads will not be tricked that easy, and they are following the trends and are not going to fall for this one.
The comments on this trend just confirm what we all though, and that is your parenting style is not going to please everyone. Don’t worry, mom lets dad in on the prank before any real punishment happens.
