Fallopian tubes are 2 tube like structures present on either side of the uterus. They are thin tubes like a pipe. One end is connected to the uterus and the other end is finger like projection called fimbria engulfing the ovary. The function of fallopian tube is

1. The fimbria catures the egg once it is released from the ovary
2. The egg travels to the fallopian tube and meets the sperm and in the fallopian tube only the egg and sperm meet. The fertilization occurs.
3. The embryo is formed here. The growth of embryo till day 4 to day5 occur here. Then the embryo travels to the uterus to implant in the uterus.

Fallopian tube block occurs mostly due to infections:

Infections are the commonest to cause the tubal block-
1. Tuberculosis
2. Chlamydia

Tubal block can also occur due
1. Previous surgery
2. previous ectopic pregnancy and patient is operated for it
3. Any fibroid or endometriotic cyst which block the fallopian tube

The fallopian tube can be assessed if they are patent or not by
1. SSG -sonosalpingography
2. HSG- Hysterosalpingography
3. Laparoscopy which can asses the tubal status accurately
