Huge protests in Thailand to demand reforms of the royal family.
Tens of thousands of people yesterday and today took part in the biggest protest in Thailand in recent years, calling for a restriction on royal power.

"If the royal family is not placed under the constitution, we will never have real democracy," Reuters quoted protest leader and human rights lawyer Arnon Namp declared in front of a gathering crowd. Grand Palace, in the heart of Bangkok.

"Furthermore, moreover," the crowd shouted after Mr. Arnon called for cuts in the royal budget and constitutional changes to put King Maha Vajiralongkorn under control.

This morning, protesters used cement to fasten a bronze plaque on the lawn near the Palace, claiming that Thailand belonged to the people, not the royal headed by King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The bronze plaque was placed in Sanam Luang, also known as the royal lawn, right after sunrise. Earlier, a plaque similar to the end of the authoritarian monarchy in Thailand in 1932 was lifted after King Vajiralongkorn came to power.

Tens of thousands of protesters chanted slogans calling for royal reform, removing Prayuth Chan-ocha, a former coup leader, from his current prime minister position.
