Biden sparks fury after intervening against UK in Brexit row
  • 4 years ago
Joe Biden has caused fury among some Conservative MPs for appearing to threaten the UK/US trade deal if the UK does not scrap its controversial Internal Market Bill. This Bill is being criticized by those in the EU for breaking international law and potentially endangering the Good Friday Agreement, something which is vehemently denied by the UK government who says the law is aimed at protecting it.

Biden tweeted yesterday that “Any trade deal between the U.S. and U.K. must be contingent upon respect for the Agreement and preventing the return of a hard border.”

Despite senior Democrats threatening to veto a trade deal between the UK and USA in Congress, where it must be ratified, Republicans have been warmer to Britain. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo when asked said he trusted the UK “to get this right”.
