Vehicles drive through flooded streets as Typhoon Noul hits Thailand

Roads were flooded in northern Thailand today (September 18) as Typhoon Noul brought heavy rain to the country.

Footage from Khon Kaen province around 450 kilometres northeast of the capital Bangkok shows drivers battling through the deluge, which swamped roads and homes and was more than a metre deep in some places.

Many restaurants and shops used bags of sand to shield properties from the surge.

The Thailand National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting warned of winds of up to 160 kilometres per hour.
