Milk Matters helps preemies
You may or may not have heard about Milk Matters. It is an initiative that allows mothers to share their excess breast milk with babies in need. The idea was born in 2003 by Dr Melissa Densmore, a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Town. She later facilitated the birth of an app that tracks donor mothers and their milk. Three honours students are now building on that research and under the supervision of Densmore are hoping to expand the app and make it more widely available in South Africa. Dino Bossi is one of the developers and one of the computer science honours student from UCT and Carene Joubert is a clinical manager and dietician from Milk Matters.
