Colombian indigenous people take down a statue of Sebastián de Belalcázar, a 16th-century Spanish conquistador, following a mobilisation called by the Misak, Nasa and Pijao communities to protest what they describe as the physical and cultural extermination of the indigenous peoples of Cauca.
The protest revived recent scenes of statues of slavers and settlers being knocked down in the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Martinique during the demonstrations that followed the death of African-American George Floyd.
