Bubbly, carefree and happy-go-lucky, Meher Kaur Dhillon falls in love with Manav Sharma who aspires to be an IAS officer. The village sarpanch Kulwant Kaur Dhillon, who is Meher's mother, fixes her marriage with Sarabjit Singh Gill, a widower with a 5-year-old son Paramjit Singh Gill. Meher refuses the marriage proposal as she is in love with Manav and pregnant with his child. When Kulwant finds out about her pregnancy, she invites Manav to their house. She stabs Manav and threatens Meher to marry Sarabjit to save her unborn child.

Unwillingly, Meher accepts the proposal to save her unborn child from Kulwant's ill intentions. On their wedding night, she reveals about her pregnancy and asks Sarab to let her go. Sarab gets angry but later promises to take her to Serbia where she could get move on with a new identity. Harleen finds out that the baby is not of Sarab's. She gives Meher an ultimatum to either abort the child or leave Sarab. Meher opts for the abortion but is stopped by Sarab.

Param falls sick due to severe liver problem and needs immediate transplantation. Meher's liver matches with Param but due to her pregnancy the transplantation is risky for her and Meher has a mere 1% chances of survival. Param is healed. Meher's condition worsens and the docters declare her dead. Param and Sarab's prayers for her bring her back to life.

Eventually, Meher and Sarab start developing feelings for each other. Meher gives birth to a baby boy who is named Karanjeet "Karan" Singh Gill. Manav comes back as Vikram Diwan, a CBI officer accusing Sarab of a scam.
