Double-crested cormorants - personal space on the roost

This floating sculpture is a favourite roost of double-crested cormorants in False Creek, Vancouver. The bird at left is in prime breeding plumage, feathers looking like armoured plates, two crests of black plumes on either side of the head. I had been used to seeing white crests, individuals sporting either can be seen on the BC lower coast.
