Typhoon alerts are now in place in Jeju,... and related advisories are projected to be expanded as the day goes on.
Right now, waves of three to ten meters high can be seen in waters off the island,...
and ferry services between Jeju and the mainland have been canceled.
The typhoon will pass Jeju this evening and then hit southern parts of Korea.
According to the national weather service's expected trajectory, Maysak will pass close to Seogwipo at around 6 PM, before making a landfall near Busan at 2AM on Thursday.
Afterwards, it will move up the east coast on Thursday morning before heading back out to sea.
Typhoon Maysak is currently packing wind speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour, but these are expected to weaken slightly to around 145 kilometers per hour in the afternoon.
Caution is still needed though as these wind speeds are strong enough to blow over vehicles and cause severe damage.
Heavy rain of up to 400 millimeters is also forecast for Jeju and eastern regions such as Gangwon-do and Gyeongsangnam-do Province.
To minimize damage, officials are urging citizens to take precautionary measures and comply with safety rules.
